STOL CH 701 ENGINE INSTALLATION PHOTOS: Page 1 of 2

The Rotax 912 series engine (80 or 100 hp) is the standard recommended powerplant for the STOL CH 701.  Other engine installations are not directly supported by Zenith Aircraft Co., and will affect the performance and specifications of the aircraft. Suitable engines for the STOL CH 701: 50 - 100 hp, up to 185 lbs. installed weight.

Note: The STOL CH 701 is probably the most copied sport aircraft on the market today, and there are a number of Rotax firewall forward installations being marketed as "improved" or lower cost alternatives, many with undemonstrated performance claims, and some with "grey" market (out of warranty) engines.

Rotax 912S The new Rotax 912S installation uses a new stainless steel exhaust system, new radiator cooling system, and is equipped with a Warp Drive three-blade ground adjustable pitch propeller with fiberglass spinner.

Rotax 912S Engine Installation Workshop hosted by Quality Sport Planes (QSP) in California (October 2007). The hands-on workshop assists builders with the steps required to properly install the Rotax 912S engine with new rear ring mount, including cooling, oil, fuel and electrical systems. The entire engine installation process was videotaped by HomebuiltHelp.com to share with other builders.

Vulcan diesel engine Raptor / Vulcan Aircraft's prototype Raptor 105 turbo diesel engine introduced at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo (January 2007, in Sebring, Florida).  The new engine promises to be competitive to the Rotax 912S in weight and cost, and will feature FADEC control.
