European Zodiac XL ULM
|
 Zenair
has developed the Zodiac CH 601 XL ULM version specifically for the
European market, where light aircraft rules restrict the gross weight to 450
kg. (992 lbs.).
The lightened European Zodiac XL
is the result of continuing development, and is now available as a all-new
"100% Finished
Airframe" Quick-Build Aircraft Kit.
The standard ZODIAC XL ULM kits,
manufactured by Zenith
Aircraft in the United States, are being distributed across Europe from Zenair
Europe (Belgium/France) and established Zenair
dealers. Lighter materials are used in the European version
of the XL. This includes an all-new lightweight composite landing gear main
spring, lighter European-made wheels and brakes, and some lightened airframe
items. As tested with the standard 100-hp Rotax 912S engine installation, a
basic European Zodiac XL ULM weighs just 265 kg. (585 lbs.).

kit pricing reflects changes to the kit for the lighter (and slightly
costlier) kit components.

The standard ZODIAC CH 601 XL
ULM kit comes with all airframe kit parts to build the aircraft: The complete kit includes the
factory riveted wing spars, pre-formed sheet-metal parts (ribs, skins, etc.),
factory-welded parts, landing gear (tricycle), standard fuel system, canopy, controls, and
all hardware required for assembly. Standard features of the airframe kit include electric
elevator trim tab, extended rear baggage compartment, welded steel cabin access steps,
wheels with hydraulic disk brakes, and more. Although
similar in appearance, the ZODIAC XL ULM (European)
model uses lighter weight materials than the standard
Zodiac XL from Zenith Aircraft Co. The main
differences include the new lighter composite main landing
gear spring, lighter wheels and brakes, and lighter-weight
airframe components. The standard kit now
includes many precision CNC
pre-cut and pre-drilled skins and components.
The Drawings and Manual are included. Not included
in the airframe kit: powerplant and instruments packages, paint, and upholstery.

includes Aileron Trim Tab (electric), aileron "piano"

assembled, as are the tail sections and the fuselage, and

instruments, and cabin upholstery, and paint. Note: This kit in not intended to meet the 51% rule for
amateur-built aircraft - it represents a much higher level
of completion than Zenith's standard Quick
Build Kit, and has been developed specifically for the
