Steve Smith, from Santa Rosa, California, has logged more than
230 flight hours over last eight months in his Zodiac XL.
"Today I flew my Zodiac XL round-trip to Lakeview Oregon which is just
across the border from the north-east corner of California. The
flight was 721 miles and the trip was a total of 9 hours. I landed at 15
airports along the way. Many were remote and clearly see very little
use. I just enjoy the challenge of approaching and landing at an
airport that is new to me. I liked all of today's airports but my
favorite was in Quincy. The town is deep in a valley and the
airport's approach is just a little bit challenging...
"I flew over lots of snow-covered peaks, some almost 7,000 feet.
It was a warm day. Spring has sprung; I have the bugs on the canopy to
prove it. |

"This screen shot
below is from the latest version of my airplane tracking software.
The green line is my intended route and the blue one is my actual route.
This kind of data is available in real time on my web site because the
plane transmits its location very 10 seconds to my web server on the
ground. You can follow the flyable flight path on Google Earth..."
